Cilacap – Nusakambangan, for some people, immediately sends chills down their spine upon hearing this name. And rightfully so, because the island located south of Cilacap Regency is known for its eerie reputation. Its reputation stems from housing several correctional facilities that detain convicts with various criminal backgrounds, including terrorism. Currently, the government continues its efforts to combat terrorism in the country. Various strategies have been implemented, ranging from the tough approach through the Special Detachment 88 Anti-Terrorism of the Indonesian National Police (Densus 88 AT Polri), to softer approaches such as the establishment of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT). The presence of BNPT collaborating with various stakeholders has proven to bring positive trends, indicated by a significant decrease in terrorism activities.
To support these efforts, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, Regional Office of Central Java, in collaboration with the Special Detachment 88 Anti-Terrorism and PT. Manunggal Perkasa Cilacap, organized an event titled “Empowerment Campaign: Entrepreneurship in Bakery” for Terrorism Convicts at the Class IIA Prison on Nusakambangan Island

The event aims to provide skills to terrorism convicts (napiter) in making food from flour-based ingredients. The goal is that once these convicts are released and reintegrated into society, they will have skills they can use to start businesses and lead better lives. The event was conducted in a friendly, conducive, and interactive atmosphere. There was no awkwardness observed among the convicts throughout the entire event. They mingled comfortably, diligently listened to guidance and instructions from the Baking Team of PT. Manunggal Perkasa, and actively practiced five recipes: sponge cake, dumplings, chicken noodles, cookies, and doughnuts.
